I Tore You Apart In My Head by Balance & Composure

TOP ALBUMS OF 2011
#3- Separation by Balance and Composure
RIYL: Basement, Tigers Jaw, Nirvana
Start With: I Tore You Apart In My Head
For the majority of this year, this was my number one album. Them dropping to the number three spot has nothing to with the quality of this album, as it is in every sense a perfect album, but it’s simply a testament to the fact that these top 3 albums are all in all “number one caliber”. Balance and Composure has been a band that is difficult to pigeonhole, are they pop-punk? grunge? alternative? some weird hybrid genre? but that really seems to suit them well and it certainly shows in this album. Separation does such a terrific job of flowing different sound and genres together between and throughout songs. Additionally, there is no band that I can easily think of that does dramatic tempo changes and build-ups quite like (and to the effectiveness of) Balance and Composure. This album is exciting, because I feel like it’s capable of opening up doors and really pushing this band forward.
